About
The Maine Coon
Maine Coons, the “gentle-giants” of the cat world, are one the oldest, natural breeds in North America. They are one of the largest breed of
domestic cats, where males tend to be larger than females with males averaging 18-25 pounds and females averaging 12-18 pounds.
They area breed that is slow to mature, not being fully mature until 3-5 years of age. The Maine Coon has impressive features in their head and body shape and the length to their coat (ruff, stomach, and britches). They have high cheekbones, large, wideset ears that are well tufted inside and “lynx-like” tufting on the top. They have large expressive eyes. They have clown-like personalities and a sweet, affectionate nature.
Many consider Maine Coons to also be very dog-like in that they love to follow you around and help with any activity and will even play fetch. They
love to chat sometimes with funny, distinctive trills and chirps…you will love to hear some of the sounds they come out with.
Maine Coons are typically more independent in that they do not have to be laying on top of you but want to be right next to you. They are relaxed and easy going and tend to adjust to many different situations/lifestyles. They are very smart and are easily trained. Overall, they should always present in appearance as a well-balanced rectangular cat. Maine Coons come in a wide range of colors and patterns as well.
